MYLES STANDISH COLONY HISTORY
The Myles Standish Colony was organized on 13 May 1975 by a small gathering of Naples residents who were Mayflower members in other communities. The first meeting and luncheon was held at the Naples Bath and Tennis Club with 10 Charter Members and 4 prospective members in attendance. Lt. Colonel Charles W. Phifer, Deputy Governor of the Society of Mayflower Descendants in the State of Florida, presented the Charter to the new Colony and installed the first officers.
OUR OBJECTIVES
To perpetuate to a remote posterity the memory of our Pilgrim Fathers.
To maintain and defend the principle of civil and religious liberty as set forth in the Compact of the Mayflower, "For the Glorie of God, the advancement of the Christian Faith, and honor of our countrie."
In order to achieve our objectives, our Colony has an active program for Junior Membership and Education in local Lee and Collier County Schools, as well as a program for purchase of General Society of Mayflower Descendants (GSMD) reference books for local libraries for genealogical research. We also raise funds for the Florida State Mayflower Society Scholarship Fund.

MEETINGS FOR 2009 - 2010
Wednesday, November 11, 2009, at The Country Club of Naples, 185 Burning Tree Drive, Naples at 11:30 a.m. Forty nine members gathered for a luncheon of traditional Thanksgiving fare. Member Edith Sachs was honored with a special cake for her 95th birthday. EVERETT VAN HOESEN Member Alice Paul Gaertner displayed a large quilt designed and pieced by her and quilted by Sheila Colvin. The quilt showed Alice's family in the tree and her three passengers on the border. The side panels also represented the flags of the original thirteen colonies at the time of the Revolutionary War and the modern United States of America flag. Also shown are flags over time representing her family's English heritage, as well as the flags of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants and the Myles Standish Colony. THE REV. ALBERT MYERS JEAN ALBRECHT, STATE EDUCATION CHAIRMAN WITH
Everett Van Hoesen ("Van"), fellow colony member, presented a unique and interactive historical program about the Mayflower passengers. Attendees at the meeting were given identities and asked to play participatory roles in the program. They were faced with decisions our ancestors had to make almost 400 years ago during the time in Leyden, on the Mayflower, and following their arrival at Plymouth.

ALICE PAUL GAERTNER AND HER QUILT
Clyde Blanchard introduced new members - the colony has a total of 142 adult members. Sheila See, junior member chairman, said the colony now has 179 junior members. See membership link below for more information.
Saturday, January 23, 2010 at the Royal Palm Yacht Club, 2360 West First Street, Ft. Myers. The program was presented by the Rev. Albert Myers, Elder, Florida Society of Mayflower Descendants, with a review of "Capture the Flag: A Political History of American Patriotism" by Woden Teachout. The book reveals the flag has held vastly different meanings over time.

Jean will present a skit with some of the colony members in costume, depicting their ancestors. She will also review educational material being presented in Florida schools to third graders and available to our colony to present.
The menu will consist of: Chicken and Chevre in Pastry (chicken breast wrapped in flaky puff pastry with chevre and fresh thyme, served over a tart wil cherry beurre blanc), long grain and wild rice, sugar snap peas with carrots, warm rolls, and rainbow sherbet.
